Spring Bouquet - Demonstration Level
Published on June 8, 2021
Showcase your technical and creative abilities with a spring inspired bound bouquet. You can think of a demonstration level bouquet as a curriculum vitae or portfolio.
What is a bond bouquet?
A bond bouquet is an arrangement created by placing stems all in one direction. The bouquet is then tightly bonded and secured. The directional placement gives the bouquet more stability and durability while giving you more control over the placement of the stems. The technique can be used for natural, artificial, dried or preserved arrangements.
Important technical points:
- Respect the flow of the bound bouquet for stability
- Symmetrical balance
- Classic proportions : 1/3 of the stem under the binding point and 2/3 of the bouquet above
- Have one dominating texture over the others
- Harmony of colours
STEPS
- Stem all your flowers and greens. The length of each stems need to be similar to help you shape the bouquet.
- Create a base. In this example, Isabel created a base with cardboard wrapped in raffia. She created swirls of braided raffia, a different way to use this affordable material, giving the bouquet more value and complexity. She is giving herself a nice base to insert the floral stems.
- Start your bouquet with the structural elements. Isabel uses stems of sphagnum moss and then fills in with floral elements in a symmetrical manner.
- Bond the bouquet tightly so it does not lose its shape.
- Cut the stems to the same length. Your bouquet should be able to stand on its own when placed on a table.
- Have fun creating your bond bouquet. Experiments with shapes, textures and colours, and more importantly, make it your own!
